My Favorite Hat (Andes)
Mi Sombrero Favorito (Andino)


Are you smiling? This hat just makes me happy to look at it. It's worn on a CD cover of Andean music by the group Savia Andina (Sukay).This CD (as are their others) is really great.

I'm investigating the proper use and meaning of the hat, but it's a celebration all by itself.

The musician is playing a zampoqa, or Andean pan flute, which is a beautiful instrument that I'm learning to play.

in Sucre, in southern Bolivia. There are over
2,000 varieties of potatoes in the Andes. Each
has it's own name. For example, the green ones
here are "papas lisas".
